SAI BABA - A RAY FROM THE SUPREME – Review by Gopal Mehta
K N Sinha, the author of this book experienced and understood the divinity of Sri Sathya Sai Baba only after he was rescued from the jaws of death and his daughter was cured of her mental illness by Baba. This book gives a detailed account of the Divine principle that incarnated in the past and completed Its' mission, although each one had different name at the body level and were called Rama, Krishna, Buddha and Christ. Then the author goes in detail to reveal the circumstances under which the Lord took human form as Shirdi Sai Baba and presently as Sathya Sai Baba and also about the next Sai Avatar to be known as Prema Sai.
This book contains many of Sai Baba's sayings from His divine discourses which create lasting impact on its listeners and also quotes from devotees such as Dr. Sandweiss, Dr. Hislop, Dr. Gokak and Prof. Kasturi to illustrate what a great fortune it is to experience the living God in India. The book covers a variety of incidents from the lives of devotees who were God-intoxicated and found bliss and nirvana (merger) into God Consciousness and concludes with messages of Baba recorded from His direct answers to some well-known devotees' questions on sadhana and meditation practice. In His Image is the result of many years of searching by the author Madeleine Guillemin with a relentless desire to make sense of the different views between science and spirituality. The author presents us with invaluable pointers to evaluate our priorities, beliefs and prejudices from the East and the West. In her search she had visited and stayed at Puttaparthi Ashram for many weeks and months. This book presents the gleanings collected along the course of a very personal search; you may wish to be given some idea of the nature of that search and of the personality of the one who has done the gleaning.
The author has quoted many discourses of Bhagavan Baba and related them to quotations from leading and notable scientists, psychologists, psychiatrists, playwrights, writers, novelists and many others. The writer of God In Our Midst, Dr. Hiramalini Seshadri, explains in the opening of her book that she is only the pen, and the real writer is Sathya Sai Baba. In which case Sai Baba has a wonderfully light and very easy-to-follow writing style, which invites the reader to read on and on effortlessly. The book starts with a scientific but light-hearted kind of study of who we are, why we are here and why God created us. The story of Sathya Sai Baba unfolds through the quoting of many prophesies, from many different sources, which foretold Sai Baba's incarnation. Dr. Seshadri then continues to tell us about Sai Baba's birth and growing up as a small child, while he was surrounded by and performed many unbelievable acts and miracles for his friends. The open and easy-going narration of Shirdi Sai Baba's life and the many experiences with Sai Baba, as quoted from books written by many devotees, leaves the reader with a very playful and open attitude towards God and life.
