A REVIEW OF "THE GREATEST ADVENTURE"
"Be in the world, but not of it," is the recurring message of Dr M.V.N Murthy's collection of beautifully written essays entitled The Greatest Adventure. Each essay takes the reader through a journey that is at once thrilling and enlightening. It is impossible not to relate each individual essay to your own life. We are slowly brought in contact with flaws in our character that we were previously unaware of, while at the same time realising the deeper meaning of Swami's teachings. The book offers a near-perfect introduction to Swami's teachings and an easy guide to the application of these teachings in everyday life. Price: $5.95;US$4.20
MIND INTO HEART BY ELLEN SCHUMANN - Review by Kan Narayan
Mind into Heart is a collection of the author's many years of life experiences and dreams and Baba's teachings and inner whisperings. This book was blessed by Sri Sathya Sai Baba in darshan. The author begins with a quotation from Swami - "The mind does not have any powers. The only power is Atma Shakti (Power of the Soul). Actually the mind does not exist. There is no mind. The moon is lit by the sun. What we take to be the mind is The reflected light of the Atma shining on The heart. Really, there is only the heart."
This book contains the author's personal experiences of living in the ashram for many months. She takes the reader to the daily lives of devotees, living in Puttaparthi and Whitefield, who have no other desire but to be in the trance of being near Bhagavan. For people who have been to Puttaparthi will realize what it entails to be blessed by Swami through His darshan. It will also be a new experience to go through the process of waiting in queues with thousands of people and by sitting on the floor for a number of hours. All those hours start off as an ordeal and later on Swami with His Love changes the attitude of one and all and the author is no exception.
The book has several valuable quotations of Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and concludes with an epilogue on Guru. The author said about Swamiji," …This is not a person with a long chain of lives. He is God himself taking a form. When righteousness declines, to bring us back to our true nature. Sai Baba is God and a perfect example of Love in human form. Everything He says, He also does. There's no question of His love. It's a surging river. There's no question of His Divine Mission. I look at His handiwork and see the possibilities of the true Golden Age. God is your friend closer than even your own mother and father. He exists in you in the form of Self. "
This is a book for all and more so for those who have not been to see Bhagwan and be blessed with His darshan, padanamaskar and/or interview. Price:$10.50;US$7.40
"AGAIN AND AGAIN THY LOTUS FEET I SEEK" BY DR. DHARMA – Review by Gopal Mehta
Sri Sathya Sai Baba gave His first Bhajan (devotional song prayer) "Manasa Bhajore Guru Charanam (meditate on the feet of thy Guru)" to humanity, back in 1940, emphasizing the need for devotees to worship the lord's lotus feet in order to stop the cycle of birth and death and attain liberation. This book, though small in number of pages, carries a profound message for all those who seriously seek the grace of the lord, especially those who consider themselves to be Sri Sathya Sai Baba's devotees. The book has valuable information on the significance of adoring, touching and worshipping the feet of the lord. The author describes her unique experience of visiting Sri Sathya Sai Baba for the first time after becoming a widow and the parental love, solace and strength that she received from Baba. She had at the time the opportunity to do padanamaskar (touching the Holy feet with reverence) and since then her life has been transformed into a blissful and meaningful journey in life as a teacher of the Women's college at Anantapur, India.
The book illustrates episodes from Ramayana (the Great Indian epic) where Bharatha receives the sandals of Lord Rama; the story of Sage Markandeya embracing Lord Shiva's feet to avoid the call of death and from the life of Lord Jesus at whose feet surrenders a sinful woman. The woman washed His feet with tears of repentance and Jesus blessed her, forgiving her sins and giving her a new life of peace and purity. This book will enrich and assist devotees to advance in their spiritual journey. Price: $2.50;US$1.75
